Clearwater Fleet Operations in Lunenburg, NS, office requires Deck Officers who hold a Transport Canada Certificate of Competency Fishing Master Class IV, III, II or I for relief and potential future full-time positions in the offshore factory freezer harvesting fleet sailing from the ports of Shelburne or Mulgrave Nova Scotia and Harbour Grace in Newfoundland. Purpose of Position The primary role of the Deck Officer(s) is to implement and achieve the policies and goals set forth by the Company in safe vessel operations, crew safety, sustainable harvesting, to harvest and produce premium quality shellfish in an efficient and cost-effective manner. Reporting Structure This position reports to: Canadian Scallop & Lobster Fleet Operations Manager Major Responsibilities: Ensure vessel and equipment are maintained and any deficiencies that affect the safety of the crew, or safety or seaworthiness of the vessel, are promptly reported to the Company; and all employees or others at or near the workplace follow the safety policies and safe work procedures established for the workplace; Follow the Company’s directives on sustainable harvesting practices; Ensure harvesting is carried out within the vessel license and license conditions; Ensure Transport Canada Regulations for the vessel, the voyage and the crew are followed by all onboard; Work in collaboration with vessel Engineers and the Vessel Manager on refit planning and planned maintenance lay-overs. Ensure required record-keeping is accurate and timely; Will provide supervision, leadership and training to subordinates as may be required; Key Behavioral Competencies: Must have the ability to work in the dynamic operating environment of an offshore harvesting and processing vessel, harvesting in Near Coastal 1 waters for either 16 or 35 day trip rotations (one trip on and one trip off); Must be willing to work in a fast-paced environment as part of a team; Ability to travel locally and internationally as required; Excellent communication skills are required, both verbally and written in English; Resourceful and creative in problem solving; Qualifications Required: At minimum a Fishing Master Class IV; Valid Marine Medical Certificate of Fitness; Offshore fish harvesting experience, preferably shellfish. Considered Assets: Experience in an offshore harvesting and processing operation. Experience with seafood processing equipment.
